Behind the success of Montblanc stand not only those who work with and on the products, but also many essential people who make possible or simplify the work of others. Personnel Management, IT, Finance & Control, Purchasing, Logistics and Corporate Social Responsibility are all departments without which a modern company cannot operate. Montblanc considers them the much esteemed prerequisites of success.


Personal Management

The Personnel Management department is responsible for global strategic personnel policy on the one hand and the operational aspects of personnel in the various countries on the other. It includes the entire value chain: staff strategy, staff planning and control, staff marketing, staff recruitment and staff development using our own academy, organisational development and staff administration. Consequently, personnel management works with all departments.

Staff in the personnel department oversee and advise specialist departments and must therefore communicate in various languages at all levels.

Independent working, creative thinking, specialist and social skills help in developing strategy-compliant personnel concepts. Integrity, reliability, accurate working and a good grasp of business complete the skills profile.



The work of an IT department can be divided into three basic areas, in which planning and operational processes play an on-going role.

• Analysis and discussion of operational requirements as well as their implementation in accordance with Montblanc's IT strategy
• Change management, process optimisation, training
• Project management, budget planning and budget control

• Changes and expansion (e.g. new locations, the installation of new applications, setting up additional work stations, ...)

Operational processes:
• Continuing proactive monitoring of the IT infrastructure in all locations
• User Help Desk for IT queries (one-stop shop)
• Dealing with faults with outside suppliers (providers, software manufacturers)
• Supply management for IT components
• User management (authorisation, locking and allocation of resources)

Key prerequisites for working in the IT department are strong consultancy skills, IT know-how and the analytical capacity to understand all the business processes in the field and to provide support in IT.


Finance & Controlling

In the last decade there’s hardly any other business area that changed similarly fast and fundamental as did Finance & Controlling - from “number crunchers” in former years to information brokers and consultants with strategic expertise today. The dynamic development of the Brand and the raising demands this creates in terms of management information and analysis constantly drives new challenges and responsibilities.

At the Hamburg headquarters, the responsibility for both the worldwide Group Accounting as well as the accounting for the German enetities come together.

The activities are ranging from Group consolidation, to Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet accounting, Receivables & Payables administration, and Treasury Management. A high level of interaction with all Hamburg based fundtions (including Production and After Sales Service), as well as periodic exchanges with Montblanc subsisdiaries and Richemont Group functions like Accounting, Treasury and Tax are evidencing the dynamism that the Accounting function embodies. This is only further amplified by the many regulatory changes that this field is going through for both IFRS and German HGB purposes.

The second main pillar is Controlling. It takes care of a broad array of tasks like reporting, analysis, budgeting and forecasting of the worldwide Brand development. It is also here that the coordination of the strategic planning for the Brand takes place. Management information and support is provided to our 4 production sites, the commercial and headquarter functions in Hamburg as well as the Montblanc subsidiaries worldwide. Specialist areas have been established for Product Controlling, Cost Controlling and Strategic Controlling. The latter also includes the important areas of Retail Controlling -were we keep a close eye on the development of our retail store network around the globe and Portfolio Controlling.


Corporate Social Responsibility

The CSR department ensures that the company’s high standards are maintained through responsible and sustainable behaviour. The following are just some of the varied activities that make up work in the CSR field: monitoring the CO2 balance, adherence to procedures that are ethically defendable, compliant with human rights and socially and environmentally friendly in the procurement of raw materials, and commitment to non-profit-making and charitable initiatives.


Purchasing Department

Montblanc’s Purchasing Department manages the procurement activities of the individual categories according to medium and long-term purchasing strategies. The department uses continuous and systematic procurement market analysis to keep a constant lookout for new supply sources.

Maintaining consistent control of supplies is the prerequisite for steady improvement of processes and products. Finding new suppliers, evaluating suppliers and optimising the supplier relationship and service are also involved. The purchasing department is also responsible for the entire process, from initial ordering to organising efficient delivery of items, and must intervene to resolve any problems.

Important skills for this work are a very good knowledge of and identification with the components to be supplied or of the procurement service, an analytical approach and an overall grasp of business. The characteristics of an ideal purchaser also include a proactive and creative approach and a steely, yet practical, determination.



The Logistics division is responsible for the delivery of required products at all points of sale across the world. The work encompasses needs and inventory planning, order fulfilment management, storage and despatches and returns.

Logistics encompasses many different jobs, from operational positions to administrative and planning jobs and management posts. Supply chain management requires strong analytical capabilities, a large measure of flexibility, organisational talent and project management experience. The administrative areas, such as order management and export, require industry and forwarding specialists.

Given the global nature of this work, a good knowledge of English and customs and duties is required. Excellent social skills and customer focus are essential for dealing directly with sales organisations across the world. Highly automated storage processes require an expert command of computing for jobs in incoming and outgoing goods departments, and in commissioning and packaging.
