The Event:
The 2009 Korean Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award ceremony took place at the Dynasty Hall at the Hotel Shilla on Tuesday 2 June. Lee Woon-hyung received his award in recognition of his steady support of opera, in particular the Korea National Opera.

Mr Lee was the founding chief director of Korea National Opera and has been actively engaged in various effort to popularise opera. He has provided regular support for the activities of a wide array of art groups, including the "Korea Festival Ensemble", which is one of Korea’s best chamber music companies and "Yewool Music Stage", which was established by around 20 vocalists in order to preserve and develop pure art through vocal music.

He recently donated personal funds for the expansion of the museum at the University of Michigan in the US, thereby contributing to the creation of the Korea Gallery within the re-opened museum.

Mr Lee desired to donate his award to the Korea National Opera and Yewool Music Stage.
