Liam Gillick

The extensive work of the internationally renowned English concept artist Liam Gillick (b. 1964) consists of installations, sculptures, wall paintings, design objects and text works supplemented by essays and book publications. His artistic creation, which is characterized by minimalistic aesthetics, is based on complex theoretical considerations of the social, political, ideological and economic forces that govern our society.
Gillick, who graduated from London’s Goldsmiths College in 1987 and belongs to the ambit of the Young British Artists, is a critical analyst of capitalism and Western corporate culture. Thus, one of his motivations is to reveal ideological influences in modern architecture and their effects on the collective behavior of our society. The artist, who shares his time between London and New York, was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2002.
