2004

After two successful years, Montblanc powered the third Young Directors Cut at the Salzburg Festival in 2004. Once again, three different directors were invited to take part in the project. The first nominee was Luis Ureta from Santiago de Chile, who has directed more than twenty productions since 1991. The second play was presented by Àlex Rigola from Barcelona, Spain. The young director had already received the José Luis Alonso Award for young directors and the Butaca Award for the best theater production of 2001 for his interpretation of TITUS ANDRONICUS. The third nominee was Christiane Pohle from Hamburg, Germany. Her debut piece SITZEN IN HAMBURG (SITTING IN HAMBURG) had already received several awards, including the Impulse Award for independent theater.

After watching the three wonderful plays, the jury, including Dr. Helga Rabl-Stadler, Thaddaeus Ropac and Peter Simonischek, awarded Àlex Rigola and his Teatre Lliure ensemble from Barcelona the Young Directors Project 2004 for their production of Berthold Brecht’s SANTA JOANA DELS ESCORXADORS.
