Writing Instruments
A Composer Listens
100 work steps go into creating the perfect nib for every writing instrument, for which Montblanc artisans require absolute silence, patience and expertise. Once the craftsman has aided the nib in finding its form, the vein open and willing for ink, can he begin the precise process of listening to the creation in progress, checking for imperfections in the score.
In the stillness, as the nib begins to whisper its story upon paper, the composer tunes his ears, picking up any hint of dissonance. When the keynote is perfected and ready to make its debut, all individual parts of the writing instrument come to place, the notes are secured to the staff, and the first flow of ink brings about the overture - a writing instrument brought to life.
