As in previous years, the Young Directors Project 2006 was celebrated in the gallery of Thaddaeus Ropac, who was on the jury of the Young Directors Project together with festival president Dr. Helga Rabl-Stadler and Salzburg’s “Jedermann” Peter Simonischek, as well as Wolfgang Kralicek (cultural critic). As part of the Salzburg Festival, theatrical director Martin Kušej presented at this year’s competition, along with the following young directors:

Roger Vontobel with SCHERZ, SATIRE, IRONIE UND TIEFERE BEDEUTUNG (JOKE, SATIRE, IRONY AND DEEPER MEANING) by Christian Dietrich Grabbe – in cooperation with the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg; Barbara Weber with VIKTOR! HAPPINESS IS A WARM GUN, based on motifs by Roger Vitrac – in cooperation with the Theater Freiburg and the HAU Berlin (Hebbel am Ufer); Friederike Heller with DIE UNVERNÜNFTIGEN STERBEN AUS (THE UNREASONABLE ARE DYING OUT) by Peter Handke – in cooperation with the Burgtheater Vienn; and David Bösch with MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING by William Shakespeare – in cooperation with the Thalia Theater Hamburg.

At the end of the competition, David Bösch was awarded the Montblanc Young Directors Award 2006 worth €10,000 and the exclusive Montblanc “Hommage à Max Reinhardt” writing instrument, which was especially designed for the Young Directors Project.
