2012

Event:

In 2012, Montblanc invited four young stage directors from South Africa, Austria, France and South Korea to present their theater plays as part of the Young Directors Project. The jury consisted of Dr. Helga Rabl-Stadler (president of the Salzburg Festival) and Thaddaeus Ropac (Ropac Gallery) who have been supporting the project since the very beginning. They were joined by the actor August Diehl, the author Klaus Händl and the critic Peter Kümmel, who joined the jury for the first time.

The Young Directors Project powered by Montblanc is an exciting theater competition for young, upcoming international theater directors and their ensembles held as part of the Salzburg Festival. Each year, an expert jury honors the most outstanding performance with the Montblanc Young Directors Award, € 10,000 prize money and the exclusive Montblanc Limited Edition "Hommage à Max Reinhardt" Fountain Pen, which is exclusively designed for the Young Directors Project every year.

Nominees:
The Young Directors Project organized by Montblanc started with the premiere of the first performance "Trapped" by Tick Tock Productions from South Africa, followed by the international productions "Jakob Michael Reinhold Lenz" by Theater Montagnes Russes from Austria, "Éternelle Idole/This is how you will disappear" by Gisèle Vienne from France and "Hamlet Cantabile" by Performance Group Tuida from South Korea.

Winner:
Montblanc awarded Gisèle Vienne from France with the Young Directors Award 2012. She convinced the jury with her pieces "Eternelle Idole" and "This Is How You Will Disappear". The young director received the Montblanc Young Directors Award 2012 in the presence of the jury members, as well as Norbert Platt (Chairman of the Montblanc Supervisory Board) and Ingrid Roosen-Trinks (Director of the Montblanc Cultural Foundation).
