The Montblanc High Artistry Collection is our tribute to the Great Wall of China, which dominates deserts, valleys and mountains like a huge stone dragon.
Drawing inspiration from the shape of a traditional calligraphy brush, this collection's writing instruments – the LE1, LE5 and LE88 – honour the ancient art of calligraphy. The curved nib's tip is at a 45° angle, making it possible to create lines of different thicknesses at various angles. Therefore, writers are able to create beautiful words and symbols developed from the principles of rhythm and composition.
A DRAMATIC VISION OF THE GREAT WALL
The Limited Edition 1 evokes a dramatic vision of the Great Wall twisting like a massive stone dragon over a vast landscape. The dragon metaphor comes to life on the Au 750 solid yellow gold cap and barrel in a pavé setting of sapphires, rubies, turmalin and diamonds. It is crowned by a selected 4.69 ct brilliant-cut diamond set into the skeletonised and hand-engraved Au 750 solid gold cap top symbolising a dragon's claws holding the diamond. A miniature music box is integrated into the cone, which plays a melody inspired by the sound of chime bells – a traditional royal instrument used in Chinese rituals and court music. The Au 750 solid yellow gold clip depicts a 3D hand engraved lion – a traditional Chinese symbol of protection.
CELEBRATING THE ANCIENT ART OF CALLIGRAPHY
The Limited Edition 5 fountain pen’s cap and barrel are made from Au 750 solid yellow gold and artfully hand-painted with enamel cloisonné and champlevé designs. The magnificent colours are inspired by the traditional enamel painted vases from the Ming dynasty. Shaped like a traditional calligraphy brush and made of squirrel hair stabilised with translucent lacquer, the cone can be exchanged with a real brush for writing calligraphy. The Au 750 solid yellow gold curved nib is decorated with a 3D relief of the Great Wall and set with a brilliant-cut diamond.
BRINGING TO LIFE THE BEAUTY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP OF THE QIN DYNASTY
The Limited Edition 88 fountain pen honours the Great Wall during the Qin Dynasty, which is artfully reflected in its design features. Forepart engraving shows a map of the Great Wall during the Qin Dynasty and the armours of the Chinese warriors who – like the Great Wall – served as a symbol of protection. This inspires the design of the cap and barrel, which is made of Au 750 solid white gold. The decoration on the ring, which is made of Kalahari-Jasper, tells the legend of the beacon towers.
