You might think of Montblanc as being close to the Alps, but our headquarters and place of origin are surprisingly far from the mountains: We're a Hanseatic original, based in Hamburg since 1906. Founded at a time when Silicon Valley was just a valley and Hamburg was the place to be: The place with the harbour as the gateway to the world.


Much like Montblanc, Hamburg holds tradition in high regard, embraces the global stage, and consistently aims for excellence. In this city, the Hanseatic spirit endures, offering a cosmopolitan and liberal environment. Here, the extraordinary is ordinary: from the world's best concert hall acoustics at the Elbphilharmonie to the most bridges in Europe (2,500) and two popular football teams (HSV & St. Pauli). With lush green parks, tranquil forests, the harbour and the Alster river, it is easy to escape into nature. It's no wonder that Hamburg has earned its place as one of the top ten most liveable cities in the world (according to a study by the Economist Intelligence Unit, 2016).

Our headquarters in Hamburg is home to a third of our global team. Until 1989, we were located in the Schanze. That year, we made the bold decision to move outside the city centre, yet affirming our commitment to our history and our city. It may no longer be the centre of the city, but we wanted the space and freedom to bring new ideas and visions to life. In 2022, MONTBLANC HAUS became the latest addition to our campus. Here we invite employees and visitors to immerse themselves in our approach to the art of writing and luxury goods.
