1.2 Writing Instrument
It is necessary to use the StarWalker writing instrument that comes with the Augmented Paper. It contains technology that communicates with the Augmented Paper.
The StarWalker writing instrument will not work as a stylus on other devices. It is only meant to be used with the Augmented Paper and using it as a stylus with other devices could cause damage.
Yes, you can use your corresponding StarWalker with another Augmented Paper.
The Augmented Paper StarWalk contains the passive technology allowing for you handwriting to be registered in the Augmented Paper. Therefore, it is not possible to dissemble it or to screw it apart to exchange the refill. Please visit Montblanc.com on how to exchange the refill.
1.3 Notebook
We recommend using the Montblanc Augmented Paper Notebook with A5 paper (5.8 x 8.3 in) which will guarantee the proper functioning of the Augmented Paper. Even so, you may use many types of paper as long as it is no thicker than 50 pages. To purchase Montblanc Augmented Paper Notebooks, go to Montblanc.com.

Yes, you can use the back side of your paper, as long as it covers the active area of the Augmented Paper.
One Augmented Paper pen ink cartridge lasts approximately 3 months with moderate note taking.

The ink refills that come with the Augmented Paper have been optimized to function with the Augmented Paper. The quality fo the product cannot be guaranteed if using any D1 refill.

To check compatibility, go to the Google Play Store from your smartphone or tablet and look for the Montblanc Hub app. If it is listed, then your device is supported.
No, the Augmented Paper is not compatible with Microsoft Windows.
Yes, you can use your Augmented Paper with different devices as long as the device is compatible. (See our compatibility list at Montblanc.com). However, you can only connect the Augmented Paper to one device at a time. It is possible to install and use the Montblanc Hub app on multiple devices although you will not be able to sync your notes across devices.
No, you cannot directly use the Augmented Paper with your computer. However, from the app you can upload your notes to your cloud service. Once in the cloud, you can access your files in text, JPEG, PNG or PDF format from any device, like your computer for example.
1.6 App
The Montblanc Hub app can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
Yes, you can use the Montblanc Screenwriters to navigate in the app and edit your notes.
You can edit your pages with the Montblanc Hub app on your iOS or Android device, or export your notes to work on them from another device. There are a variety of editing features within the Montblanc Hub app. You can split pages, combine pages as well as draw and delete content.
Your pages are automatically organized by date and time. You can further tag your notes to be able to organize them according to contents.
Yes, in the Montblanc Hub app, you can search for a part of, or the entire tags that you have made. You can also search for part of words or entire sentences in your handwritten notes.
No, you cannot recover deleted notes in the Montblanc Hub app.
You can export or share notes from the Montblanc Hub app. Your notes can be exported in a variety of single-layer file formats including text, JPG, PNG, PDF or WILL (Wacom Ink Language Layer).
The Montblanc Hub app creates WILL (Wacom Ink Language Layer) files which can be exported as text, JPG, PNG or PDF files.
Yes, in the app you can export your handwritten notes as digital text. Supported languages are: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Russian, Portuguese and Arabic.
The Montblanc Hub app supports English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.
To change the language in the app, go to the settings menu on your device and change your device language.
Having a green or blue LED lights does not indicate that the Augmented Paper is paired to a device. Green and Blue only indicate content status. To check if the Augmented Paper is connected to your Montblanc Hub app, in the app, go to Settings, Device and if connected, your device will be listed there.
The templates functionality allows you to import any template in PDF into the Montblanc Hub app and then apply the template directly to your notes.
For the moment, only devices with iOS operating system can benefit from the templates functionality.
If you cannot find the new Templates please update the Montblanc Hub app to the newest version.
The templates manager can be found in the settings section of the app. It allows you to import, rename, make default and delete custom templates. You can also find pre-imported templates like blank or lined.
You can import a template in different ways: using the import functionality together with the Files app from your iOS device or using the “Open in” functionality.For the first one, go to settings and tap on Manage Templates. The Templates Manager will open where you can find an “Add” button, please tap on it and the application will redirect you to your Files app. Select the desired PDF that you would like to import and you will be sent back to the Templates Manager where you can see a progress indicator while the template is being imported. When the process is finished, you will be able to enter a name for the template. After that, the template will be available for use.For the second one, go to the application were you have stored your PDF template (e.g. Mail). Open the document and tap on the Share icon. Look for the Montblanc Hub app and tap on it. You will be redirected to the Templates Manager where you will see a progress indicator while the template is being imported. When the process is finished, you will be able to enter a name for the template. After that, the template will be available for use.
In order to import custom templates, the file should be in PDF, have an A4 or A5 page size and portrait orientation.
You can rename the template, but you won’t be able to edit it on the app.
You will be able to apply and change the template of a specific note within the Edit mode. Simply select the note, click on the Options menu (3 dots on the top right corner) and the Toolbar will appear. Tap on the Templates option and the Templates panel will show you all your available templates. Choose your desired template and click on Done.
Yes, if you want to have the same template applied to all your new notes, go to the Templates Manager, select the template that you would like to make default and tap on the “make default” option on the toolbar. After the template has been made default, it will be applied to the next synced notes. Changing the default template doesn’t affect the existing notes which they will maintain the previously applied template.
No, unfortunately you can only search for the text that was written on the Augmented Paper.
Yes, you can export the filled out template in the same way you export and share any other page. Simply select the respective page and choose the format for the export.
In the note you want to change the template, tap on “draw” and click on the three dots for more details. Then, open the Templates overview to select one of the existing templates and finally select the desired template.
Yes, you can combine them like any other notes. Simply select both notes and combine them.
Individual pages (e.g. forms for a template) should be aligned on the Augmented Paper + with the fixers and side guidelines placed on the leather organizer. The fixers at the top and bottom will hold the page in place and the paper should always be aligned on the right stitching to ensure full accuracy.
1.7 Using Augmented Paper
The active area on the Augmented Paper is the writing or drawing area where the pen is detected. This area is roughly the size of A5 paper.
Yes, as long as all writing is captured within the active area of the Augmented Paper you can write to the edges and corners of the paper.
Transfer speeds from the Augmented Paper to the Montblanc Hub app vary depending on a number of factors including the number of pages stored, the kind of content on each page and the type of device being used
No, you do not need to have your device with you in order to use your Augmented Paper. The Augmented Paper has its own memory and can hold up to 100 pages before you need to transfer files to your device. You will know when the memory is full when both the blue and orange LEDs are illuminated.
No, you will need to press the ‘Page’ button in the middle to create a new page.
Yes, but only use a plastic ruler as a metal ruler will interfere with the functionality of your Augmented Paper.
Yes, the Montblanc Hub app is necessary to transfer your notes to another device.
Augmented Paper goes into sleep mode after 15 minutes.
Press the ‘Page’ button in the middle.
For normal use the battery will last about one week. For continuous use the battery will last about 8 hours.
Your handwriting will not be registered by the Augmented Paper if it is turned off or if there is no battery left or if it is in sleep mode. These notes will only be available for you on paper in the notebook.
Yes, if there is only limited space available, both sides of the Augmented Paper + can easily be folded to create a smaller surface without sacrificing its stability.
