High Artistry A Journey on the Orient Express Limited Edition 83 Fountain Pen
High Artistry A Journey on the Orient Express Limited Edition 83 Fountain Pen
Full price for CAD$ 72,500.00

The name ‘Orient Express’ conjures magic and myth of a time when experienced travelers followed the call of exotic lands. It awakens visions of a glamorous train designed for sumptuous living. It unites a longing for adventure, for distant and mysterious lands, with total immersion in a world of lavish luxury. It all began with Georges Nagelmackers, a visionary who dreamed of traveling comfortably and unimpeded overland from Paris to Constantinople. His dream finally became reality on October 4, 1883. On that day, an elegant crowd thronged the Gare de l’Est in Paris to celebrate with great fanfare the maiden run of one of the most luxurious train ever created. The myth of the Orient Express had begun. This icon of stylish rail travel is the inspiration for the Montblanc High Artistry A Journey on the Orient Express Limited Edition 83. The enigmatic, smoke-engulfed locomotive was as integral to the legend of the Orient Express as the cars themselves and serves as the design inspiration for this edition. The texturized cap and barrel are created from structured black precious lacquer recalling the iron machinery of a steam engine, while meticulously crafted solid Au 750 signature gold, partly rhodium-coated decorative elements set with blue sapphires evoke its wheels and side rails with a 3D effect. The ultra-modern luxury train made a sensation when it stopped at stations such as the Gare de Lyon. The massive iron structure beneath which passengers would board at this famous Paris station are immortalized in the engravings on the forepart. One particular design highlight of the Orient Express is a decorative, oval window which is commemorated in the embossing on the handcrafted, solid Au 750 gold nib and has inspired the sunken, oval clip made from solid Au 750 signature gold with lacquer inlays in pearly white lacquer and set with a round blue sapphire. The opulent décor of the cars’ interiors was equaled by the elegant midnight blue, ivory-colored and gold livery on the outside of the cars. Their streamlined shape is mirrored in the rounded ivory-colored cone bottom and matching cap top made from precious lacquer. The oval window depicted on the nib also inspired the sunken, oval clip made from solid Au 750 signature gold with lacquer inlays in pearly white lacquer and set with a round blue sapphire. The engraving on the solid Au 750 signature gold cone highlights the routes taken by the Orient Express in 1930, at the height of its legendary and distinctive Art Deco style and glamor. With signature gold and/or signature gold-coating, Montblanc evokes the enlightened shade of yellow gold which has become an appreciated tone for the Maison’s writing instruments.
