The Montblanc 1858 product line is inspired by the legendary professional Minerva watches from the 1920s and 1930s which were conceived for military use and exploration. Reinterpreting these historical timepieces, the Montblanc 1858 product line expresses the spirit of mountain exploration, embodying the modern trend of returning to nature. The Montblanc 1858 Geosphere has, from the beginning, been linked to the Seven Summits theme and has always featured Reinhold Messner’s version of the challenge. It is therefore with great pleasure that Montblanc can now introduce a 1858 Geosphere Limited Edition dedicated to Reinhold Messner, the legendary climber and explorer. Limited to 262 pieces, the timepiece is a nod to all the peaks over 26,200 feet that he climbed during his life. It harmoniously combines bronze, blue, and rose gold-coated elements, giving a true vintage aesthetic and reminding us of the mountaineering exploration tools from the past. The caseback features an image of the Mont Blanc mountain, the complete Messner’s list, a compass, and two crossed ice pick-axes. An engraving of Messner’s signature has also been specially added for the Limited Edition. The timepiece is powered by the Manufacture automatic Calibre MB 29.25, with a worldtime complication that includes two turning domed globes representing the northern and southern hemispheres which make a full rotation every 24 hours. Both are surrounded by a scale with the 24 time zones, along with a day and night indication in contrasting colours. This provides an instinctive way of appreciating the different time zones, aided by luminescent continents for increased visibility and performance at night. The timepiece is completed with a blue textile strap that is handmade in France using traditional methods that make it not only light, soft, and very comfortable on the wrist but also highly resistant and quick drying.

History

The following module is a scrolling parallax. Titles, texts, images and videos will be highlighted in the parallax when you scroll through the page.
  • Montblanc watchmaking is built on a unique set-up that brings two manufactures together, based in Le Locle and in Villeret, in the Swiss Jura mountains.
  • The Montblanc watchmaking story began in 1858 when Mr. Charles-Ivan Robert founded a watch workshop in Villeret. This marked the beginning of the historic Minerva era.
  • Today, Montblanc timepieces continue the journey of over 160 years of Minerva history through four fine watchmaking product lines: Star Legacy, Bohème, 1858 and Heritage, all linking the past and the present through design, style, and technical innovation.
