Montblanc’s ‘baby pens’ of the 1910s and 1920s were some of the smallest writing instruments of their time – and among the most innovative. Leakproof, travel-sized and easy to use, their forward-thinking design helped to transform the world of writing during a period when people were discovering the joys of mobility on a grand scale. Now, reinterpreted for a new generation, these special editions unite heritage design with 21st century craftsmanship.

In the 1910s and 1920s, the ‘baby pen’ models in Montblanc’s safety pen range had a length of 6 to 8 cm. Small in size yet fully functional, these fountain pens were crafted from hard ebonite rubber and equipped with a 14ct gold nib. Ballpoints and rollerballs didn’t yet exist, so that the baby pens were a useful companion when out and about that would easily fit in pockets or small handbags.

These small yet elegantly formed writing instruments combine heritage-inspired features with an alluring contemporary appearance.
