The Queen Sofia Foundation and long-term support of the arts

On 9 April 2011, the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award began with a stunning first ceremony in Madrid, Spain. The ceremony was held at Zarzuela Palace where Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain was awarded the first Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award 2011 by Lutz Bethge, CEO of Montblanc International, and the Chairman of the Montblanc Cultural Foundation, internationally renowned pianist Lang Lang.

In the 20th anniversary year of the awards, Montblanc had the special honour of awarding the Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award 2011 to Her Majesty Queen Sofia for her support of the arts through "The Queen Sofia Foundation". The Queen Sofia Foundation was created in May 1977 as a non-profit and cultural foundation. Since 1994, it has been running and promoting numerous educational and health projects as well as social and humanitarian aid projects, from which children, the elderly, people from migrant backgrounds, the disabled and those affected by natural disasters have benefited.

Lutz Bethge, CEO Montblanc International, highlighted Her Majesty Queen Sofia's commitment to the weakest members of society and praised her efforts in granting them access to education and enabling them to participate in cultural life, thus improving their future prospects.
