Whether working with gold or platinum, surface coaters are the specialists in finishing the metal parts used in writing instruments. They coat the metal parts in precious metals to improve the characteristics of the surfaces. In this process, the parts are immersed in aqueous solutions mixed with acids or alkalis. The metals are then applied to the surfaces using a direct-current process.
Along with sound knowledge of surface coating techniques, trainees also learn the basics in plant engineering, computer-aided techniques and electro-technology. Skills in bevelling, brushing and polishing are also taught in other companies with which we work closely on training aspects. Vocational training is delivered in modular form in Solingen (www.tbk-solingen.de).
The Hauptschule or Realschule leaving certificate should indicate an interest in chemistry, physics and maths. Applicants should also demonstrate technical understanding, enjoy manual work and being part of a team.
