Services for your Montblanc Watch

Montblanc offers a variety of services. In case your Montblanc watch was damaged or broken or is not functioning, we are pleased to assist you. You may take your watch to a Montblanc boutique or an authorised retailer.

Bracelet service

A stainless steel bracelet will last much longer if it is adjusted to fit your wrist perfectly. The bracelet on your watch is subject to wear and tear and needs to be maintained. Even if you follow the care procedure described in your service guide, parts of your bracelet may begin to wear out with time (clasp, links, pin, etc.).

This service includes the following operations:

1. Dismantling of bracelet
2. Replacement of defective accessories or parts
3. Addition or removal of extra links (size adjustment)
4. Cleaning of bracelet with ultrasonic bath to remove dust or dirt between the links
5. Final check (aesthetics)

This service does not include:

  • Additional parts such as links or clasps. These must be paid for separately.
  • Polishing. This is an additional service. The polishing service is only offered together with a complete service. There are no services available for cleaning or maintaining leather straps. If your strap has worn out, we invite you to visit one of our Montblanc boutiques to take a look at our fine selection of straps.

Battery service

Montblanc highly recommends having your watch’s battery changed on a regular basis.

A weak battery may result in your watch being slow or even in damage to the movement due to battery leakage. We advise you to never use an old battery and to bring your watch to a Montblanc boutique or certified Montblanc retailer to ensure it is handled by a qualified technician. During the battery service, the back is removed. Both the battery and the back gasket are replaced. Screws are only changed if necessary.

Montblanc does not recommend simply changing the battery and back gasket alone. Rather, it is recommended to request a maintenance service at the same time to reduce the risk of water entry due to worn out gaskets, which may cause damage to the movement and internal parts (hands, dial, etc.).

If this were to happen, a complete service would be required, thereby costing far more than the recommended maintenance service.

1. Dismantling of accessories
2. Replacement of battery and back gasket
3. Cleaning of case or case and bracelet with soft cloth
3. Performance test
4. Function testing
5. Watch head closing
6. Water-resistance test
7. Final check (aesthetics)

Maintenance service for quartz watches

It is very important to request a maintenance service for your quartz watch every three years. This maintenance is essential to ensure the utmost performance of the movement.

During the maintenance service, all parts of your watch are dismantled, except for the movement, dial, hands and battery. At the same time all gaskets are replaced.

Back screws are only replaced if necessary.

This service includes the following operations:

1. Complete dismantling of the watch
2. Inspection of all parts
3. Cleaning of case or case and bracelet with ultrasonic bath
4. Replacement of battery and gaskets
5. Performance test
6. Function testing
7. Watch head closing
8. Water-resistance test
9. Final check (aesthetics)

Maintenance service for mechanical watches

Your watch is composed of a mechanical system that may lose precision over time and of gaskets with a limited lifespan. In order to guarantee the water-resistance and the performance of the watch’s movement, it is essential to have your watch serviced regularly:

  • Every three years for an automatic/manually wound watch
  • Every year for COSC* watches (to ensure precision)

*COSC: Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (Official Control for Swiss Chronometers). This firm, independent of Montblanc, certifies high-precision movements. For more details, see www.cosc.ch.

This service includes the following operations:

1. Complete dismantling of the watch
2. Inspection of all parts
3. Cleaning of case or case and bracelet with ultrasonic bath
4. Replacement of gaskets
5. Performance test (precision, amplitude)
6. Function testing
7. Watch head closing
8. Water-resistance test
9. Final check (aesthetics)

Both services do not include:

  • Polishing. This is an additional service.
  • The replacement of additional components such as the bezel
or crown must be paid for separately. If the dial or hands have
to be replaced, Montblanc recommends a complete service,
as disassembling the dial and hands means direct contact with
    the movement.

Complete service for bracelet/strap

Mechanical movements are made up of hundreds of different parts assembled together with painstaking attention to detail. To reduce friction, interacting elements are coated with different types of oil and grease. With time, the oil between components may thicken and the grease may dry out, reducing the performance of the watch’s movement. If you have not serviced your watch in the last five years or have not worn it for a prolonged period of time, it is recommended that you request this service.

This service includes the following operations:

1. Complete dismantling of the watch
2. Inspection of all parts
3. Complete revision of the movement
4. Polishing of the case or case and bracelet
5. Exchange of all gaskets
6. Performance test (precision, amplitude)
7. Function testing
8. Watch head closing
9. Water-resistance test
10. Final check (aesthetics)

This service does not include: The replacement of additional components such as the dial, bezel, crown or hands must be paid for separately.

Polishing service bracelet/case

Even if you take good care of your watch, scratches or blemishes may still appear on the case or bracelet. Montblanc recommends polishing your watch from time to time to recover its original brilliance and shine. To do this, the watch must be dismantled completely, separating the bracelet from the watch itself to polish each part individually. It is not possible to polish the glass in the same way, as the anti-reflection treatment would be removed. Moreover, other surfaces such as engraved or sandblasted finishes would be harmed by the brush.
Your watch can only be polished a maximum of seven times. Some scratches may be too intense to be removed. It is also not possible to polish treated pieces (PVD, ADLC, etc.) and certain materials (such as ceramic, brass, tantalum, etc.).

Please note that polishing is not a separate service, but an additional option that is only offered together with another service. The price for a polishing service is only included in a complete service. If a complete service is not performed,
polishing is an additional, chargeable service that must be accompanied by a maintenance service to guarantee the
water-resistance of the watch.

This service includes the following operations:

1. Complete dismantling of the watch
2. Polishing with different brushes and polishing pastes

- Abrasive paste with a hard brush to eliminate superficial scratches
- Hard paste with brush to smooth the uppermost surface
- Fine paste with soft brush to restore the shine and brilliance of the piece

3. Cleaning with ultrasonic bath
4. Watch head closing
5. Final check (aesthetics)
