Everyday behaviour patterns form a central theme in the oeuvre of the Moscow-born photographer Viktoria Binschtok (*1972). She grew up in Germany, studied at the Leipzig College of Graphic Design and Book Art and joined Tim Rautert’s master class in 2005.
She has developed a very finely tuned eye for social phenomena which often go unnoticed. She captures these in serial photographs, isolating them in time to reveal new interconnections.
For her “LVNY” (2004) series, Binschtok photographed some of the hundreds of women carrying Louis Vuitton handbags on the streets of New York; her pictures of this often-copied luxury product question the authenticity of brands and labels.
