Montblanc dedicates a very special limited edition to a few dragons that have become some of the most honoured in East Asian culture.
The twelfth and final piece in the series features the Imperial Dragon.
The majestic Imperial Dragon, a manifestation of power, wisdom, and celestial authority, winds its body sinuously around the solid Au 750 yellow gold cap and barrel as a 3D hand-engraved sculpture. Its body is fully set with yellow and radiant orange sapphires, complemented by hand-engraved background ornaments representing Chinese lucky clouds. In imperial China, yellow embodies supreme power, authority, and the emperor himself, while red signifies prosperity, vitality, and good fortune – colours reserved for the Imperial Dragon. This blazing fusion of colours celebrates prosperity, protection, and celestial power, affirming the dragon’s eternal role as the emperor’s divine emblem and guardian of the empire.
To match the colour of the dragon’s body, its eyes and the cone are set with further yellow sapphires, while the dragon’s head and claws are made of solid Au 750 yellow gold.
The design is further enriched with fittings crafted from solid Au 750 yellow gold and an additional dragon engraving on the forepart.
Adding another layer of imperial resonance, the handcrafted, solid Au 750 gold nib, adorned with a yellow sapphire, features a Kui Dragon motif, a legendary creature associated with rain, thunder, and control over natural forces. In Chinese tradition, such powers symbolised the emperor’s divine authority, making the Kui Dragon a fitting symbol of sovereignty and auspicious power.
The cap top is crowned with the Montblanc diamond, surrounded by brilliant-cut diamonds.
