Over the centuries, myths and legends have depicted the East Asian dragon in a multitude of forms with numerous different traits. A few dragons have crystallised out of these myths to become the most honoured among their kind. Montblanc dedicates a very special limited edition to these noble dragons, deeply rooted in East Asian culture and possessed of great powers.
The twelfth and final piece in the series features the five-clawed Imperial Dragon, one of the most revered symbols in East Asian culture, embodying power, wisdom, and celestial authority. This majestic character coils majestically around both the cap and barrel. Its head crowns the Ag 925 sterling silver cap as a raised relief sculpture, with yellow citrines set as its eyes, harmonising with the yellow citrine adorning the cone. The diamond-embellished body moulds itself to the barrel as a delicate engraving beneath a translucent red and yellow lacquer, complemented by engraved background ornaments representing Chinese lucky clouds. In Chinese imperial symbolism, yellow embodies supreme power, authority, and the emperor himself, while red signifies prosperity, vitality, and good fortune – colours reserved for the Imperial Dragon. The design is enriched with fittings crafted from solid Au 750 yellow gold and an additional dragon engraving on the forepart. The handcrafted nib, made of solid Au 750 gold, is adorned with a Kui Dragon motif, a legendary creature associated with rain, thunder, and control over natural forces, symbolising the emperor’s divine authority and auspicious power. The cap top is crowned with the Montblanc emblem in mother-of-pearl, inlaid in black onyx and covered with sapphire glass.
