Throughout history, mankind has always shown a natural instinct to express its feelings, impressions and experiences in words. So did Bram Stoker, who was many things: civil servant, theatre manager, progressive thinker, but, above all, a pioneer of the horror genre, a writer who created in Dracula not only a character of literature but also a myth. In the Irish novelist’s work of 1897, the infamous, centuries-old figure of the vampire found its definitive literary form. In honour of the author of this classic tale of horror, Montblanc has created the Writers Edition Homage to Bram Stoker Limited Edition 8, with a clear focus on the defence against vampires and the supernatural. Inspired by William Morris’s Arts and Crafts Movement, a hand-refined intricate floral design decorates the solid Au 750 white-gold cap and barrel, created with red, black, and white enamel inlays, complemented by 3D mother-of-pearl inlays, adorned with a diamond, and white gold inlays set with deep blue sapphires. The pattern continues as an engraving on the cone and the forepart. What appears at first sight to be little more than a charming floral arrangement hides a deeper symbolic meaning: the flowers represent those of garlic and wild rose, whose magical powers are supposed to confine Count Dracula to his coffin and prevent his escape. The shape of this writing instrument pays homage to a milestone in medical technology: the Pravaz syringe, which was operated by a screw mechanism. Inspired by the traces left behind by a vampire bite, the gold-coated clip is set with a red garnet and tapers elegantly, at the same time echoing the shape of a historic Montblanc fountain pen clip. Two red garnets on the clip ring suggest the vampire’s ‘bite marks’, while the cap ring is elegantly accented with black onyx. Above the solid Au 750 signature-gold clip ring sits the solid Au 750 signature-gold cap top with the Montblanc emblem – elaborately formed from brilliant-cut diamonds cushioned in red jasper. While the author did not live to experience the worldwide fame of his iconic Count, he alone deserves the honour of the Homage to Bram Stoker Limited Edition 8. In tribute, his signature nestles among the leaves and petals adorning the cap, and a single rose blooms as an exquisite engraving on the solid Au 750 gold, signature gold-coated nib.
