The Montblanc The Legend of Zodiacs The Goat Limited Edition 512 (8x8x8) is dedicated to the eighth sign of the zodiac as well as the number 8, which is considered a lucky number in Asian cultures. The cap, made of Ag 925 sterling silver, is adorned with a skilful recreation of a hand-engraved figure of a goat, rich in symbolic meaning. According to myth, the Jade Emperor established the order of the zodiac based on the arrival of each animal at his great festival. The goat, gentle and not the strongest swimmer, cleverly teamed up with the monkey and rooster, building a small raft to float safely across, earning eighth place. From that day on, people born in the year of the goat are said to be gentle, kind, and creative, embodying warmth and harmony. In 2027, the goat will be associated with the element of fire, bringing extra strength, ambition, courage, and spontaneity to its gentle nature. The engraved figure on the cap captures this essence, with its upward-curving horns symbolising strength and power, and its long fur often associated with wealth and abundance. The backdrop further enhances its meaning: the goat stands atop a rock, conveying a sense of power, dominance, and elevated status, while the grass beneath it represents nourishment. A persimmon tree, a symbol of good fortune, suggests that luck and blessings will soon come to fruition. Fine ornamental engravings decorate the platinum-coated barrel, inspired by the lucky Chinese knot symbol ‘Zhōngguó jié’ (中国结), while the gentle and kind nature of the Goat is emphasised by the jade integrated into the cone. In Asian cultures, jade holds deep meaning – like the goat, it is often associated with gentleness and harmony. The current year of the goat, 2027, is engraved on the cap ring alongside the six previous years under this sign, while the cap is crowned with the Montblanc emblem in mother-of-pearl. The goat motif reappears on the handcrafted, rhodium-coated solid Au 750 gold nib.
