Placement
Writing instruments can be engraved in one of two places – down the side of the cap, or on the clip. Cap engraving is finished in yellow gold, rose gold or platinum to complement the trim of the writing instrument. Clip engraving is not applied in colour, as an elegant addition to the existing hardware. Please note that placement options may vary between products.
Text Length
The number of letters that can be engraved depends on the placement chosen. Cap engravings can be up to 13 letters long, allowing for the addition of names or short messages. Alternatively, clips can feature up to three letters, making them better suited for initials.
Font
Luxury pens can be engraved in one of three fonts. For a hand-written aesthetic, choose the elegantly slanted ‘Script’. For a curved, italic effect, opt for the ‘Rounded’ font. Lastly, the ‘Grotesque’ font comes with a more minimal, sans serif appearance. Please note that Montblanc engraving is only available in Roman characters. The colour of the font will depend on its placement – cap engraving will match the colour of the writing instrument’s metal fittings, whereas clip engraving is applied ‘blind’, meaning without colour.
Type of Purchase
Luxury pens purchased on montblanc.com can be personalised on their respective product page. When viewing the item, you will see the ‘personalise’ option on the right of the model picture. Simply click the button and start customising. (If the product is a fountain pen, you will need to choose your preferred pen size and nib type first.) Once on the personalisation page, helpful image simulations will show what the finished design will look like with engraving. The colour of the engraving will match the fittings of the writing instrument. Engraving requests require additional time to process your order.
When purchasing a writing instrument in-store, speak to one of our Montblanc representatives about the personalisation options that you’d like to apply. They will explain all the options available for your luxury pen in detail.
To customise a Montblanc luxury pen that you already own, simply take it into one of our boutiques for our representatives to advise on personalisation. Please note that not all pre-existing purchases can be personalised, and we recommend that products are in good condition.
