WHAT IS A FOUNTAIN PEN
With improvements to ink flow, portability and durability, the fountain pen became the most prestigious writing instrument of its time during the 17th century, and remains the preferred choice of pen for many people today. At Montblanc, we began crafting these exquisite writing instruments in 1909 with the 'Rouge et Noir.' Since then, our master artisans have produced some of the most elegant fountain pens delivering unparalleled writing experiences.

HOW DO FOUNTAIN PENS WORK?
By drawing its ink from an internal reservoir which then trickles down onto a fine metal tip, known as the nib, the fountain pen holds a functionality that allows for its elegance and utility. With our artisanal craftsmanship process ensuring the most seamless writing experience, all that’s required from the writer is to insert an ink cartridge and apply pressure to paper at will.
-
HOW TO USE A FOUNTAIN PEN
Before putting pen to paper, ensure your fountain pen is filled with ink by inserting an ink cartridge or the converter, depending on your pen. Uncap the pen and reveal the nib. Once revealed, start to apply gentle pressure with your pen on your writing surface and write in your preferred style.
-
WHY USE IT
With its versatility and elegance, the fountain pen is known to bring a deeper sense of connection to the written word. Learning how to use your fountain pen effectively can create unique creative moments. Acts like journaling and card writing become all the more intimate as you’re able to stylise through the varied line thickness which the nib allows for.
-
Recognised as the heart of the writing instrument, and often referred to as the crown, each nib takes 35 skilled steps to craft. Using a combination of gold and iridium, our nibs are not only sleek but also robust.
-
A detail made from precious materials that allows you to attach your fountain pen to a pocket or notebook. Often an unsung hero, the clip must be robust to withstand the wear and tear of daily life.
-
Inlaid with the iconic Montblanc white emblem, the cap is the bodyguard of the nib. When the nib isn’t in use, the cap proves its worth by protecting it from damage and ensuring your pen doesn’t leak or dry out.
-
Home to the ink reservoir and other internal components, the barrel is the main body of the pen. Primarily it ensures no ink leaks, whilst also hosting the filling mechanism.
