Great Characters Homage to Bruce Lee Limited Edition 93 Fountain Pen

A lean figure flies through the air, the soles of his feet pointing forwards like a drawn arrow. It’s an image inextricably linked with the name Bruce Lee. The actor, director, philosopher and martial arts legend set the standard which is still aspired to today. Born in San Francisco in 1940, he grew up in Hong Kong and was, from the very start, the embodiment of two worlds: East and West. Films such as ‘The Big Boss (1971) or ‘Fist of Fury’ (1972) and a legendary fight scene in ‘The Way of the Dragon’ (1972) made him famous all over the world. It was the fusion of exemplary physique, philosophical depth and screen presence that made him so distinctive and prompted Montblanc to dedicate the Great Characters Homage to Bruce Lee Limited Edition 93 to the man himself and, in particular, to Bruce Lee the martial artist. Bruce Lee’s films consistently placed martial arts at the forefront, but rather than showcasing traditional styles, he combined Western boxing techniques with Chinese martial traditions. A striking shield he used for reaction training, painted with a swirling pattern, served as the inspiration for the design of this edition. Every writing instrument of the Limited Edition 93 has been fashioned by the hand of a maki-e master using the traditional urushi technique. Lee’s philosophy and legacy are reflected in the design of the red lacquered cone. While the name stamp of the Jun Fan Gung Fu Institute graces the cone as an artful maki-e embellishment, the solid Au 750 gold, black PVD-coated cone ring evokes the canvas of the punching bag Bruce Lee used in his training. Since Lee’s teaching is deeply rooted in philosophical wisdom, the inlay of the cone is crafted from cedar wood, recalling the four white cedar columns of the University of Washington, where Lee studied philosophy. The gold-coated clip of the Great Characters Homage to Bruce Lee Limited Edition 93 is modelled on a stick of a nunchaku, while the cap ring is reminiscent of a bamboo cane. The delicate rendering of the Chinese sign for ‘dragon’ on the Montblanc emblem made of maki-e is a further tribute to Bruce Lee, the ‘Little Dragon’. The symbol of Lee’s Jeet Kune Do philosophy graces the handcrafted, elegantly embossed, solid Au 750 gold nib.
