Your watch is comparable to a jewel. Creations of such exquisite craftsmanship require special care to maintain their pristine appearance and precise performance. To prolong its longevity and precious beauty, Montblanc highly recommends regular servicing, which allows you to keep your watch in perfect condition and working properly for a lifetime. Just as a car requires regular maintenance, every watch also needs consistent care. Your watch requires maintenance every three to five years, depending on the mechanical features of the watch.
If you have not worn your automatic or manually wound watch for a prolonged period of time, wind it fully by turning the crown twenty times. Further details are specified in the respective Service Guide.
In order to ensure the performance of your manually wound mechanical watch, we advise you to wind the crown once a day, preferably at the same time. Be careful not to force the crown once you feel resistance.
Do not change the hour or date between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., the period during which the date changes, as this may result in damage to the movement. Please refer to the service guide for further details.
Do not expose your watch to temperatures higher than 60° Celsius (140° Fahrenheit) or lower than –10° Celsius (14° Fahrenheit). As your body and clothing will warm up the watch, its actual temperature will be different to the ambient temperature of your environment.
In case of a shock to the watch, consult a Montblanc boutique or certified Montblanc retailer. Even if no scratches or dents are visible, the movement may be damaged.
Do not wear other jewellery on the same wrist as your watch in order to preserve the integrity of the material. To preserve the pristine condition of your alligator, calfskin, satin or rubber strap, avoid contact with humidity, salty water, soap and cosmetic products.
Do not treat your strap with wax, leather or shoe polish, as chemicals may damage the leather, lining or stitching. This may cause the strap to lose its original shine.
Avoid prolonged exposure to high temperatures and direct sunlight to prevent the colour from fading. Please note that strong perspiration may darken the leather.
Diamonds, set on a bezel or crown, must be handled with care to maintain the lifetime of their brilliance.
Avoid contact with chemical products such as fragrances and detergents, as these substances will tarnish precious stones. If your watch has been exposed to such products, clean it with lukewarm water and a soft toothbrush. Use a soft cloth to dry it or let it dry naturally.
Never expose it to a direct heat source. Additionally, please be sure to check the stones regularly to ensure they are still securely set.
We recommend to keep your Montblanc watch in the box in which it was received. When travelling, we advise you to keep your Montblanc watch in a specially designed travel pouch to protect it against shocks and damages.
Magnetic fields, such as those produced by TV sets, radios, cell phones, headphones, computers, tablets and magnets, occur everywhere. They affect different parts of a watch’s movement and change its performance. You can use a compass to check for magnetic fields. If the needle responds, then you are in a region of magnetic influence.
Please note that this only concerns mechanical movements. Quartz movements may lose a few seconds, but will return to normal once you leave the magnetic field.
We are happy to assist you with demagnezing your watch at most of our boutiques.
If your watch has an automatic movement, the movement is automatically wound by movements of the arm while you are wearing the watch.
If you have not worn your automatic or manually wound watch for a prolonged period of time, wind it fully by turning the crown twenty times. Further details are specified in the Service Guide.
In order to ensure the performance of your manually wound mechanical watch, we advise you to wind the crown once a day, preferably at the same time. Be careful not to force the crown once you feel resistance.
Do not change the hour or date between 10 pm and 2 am, the period during which the date changes, as this may result in damage to the movement. Please refer to the Service Guide for further details.

Mechanical movements are made up of hundreds of different parts assembled together with painstaking attention to detail. To reduce friction, interacting elements are coated with different types of oil and grease. With time, the oil between components may thicken and the grease may dry out, reducing the performance of the watch’s movement. If you have not serviced your watch in the last five years or have not worn it for a prolonged period of time, it is recommended that you request this service.
This service includes the following operations:
1. Complete dismantling of the watch
2. Inspection of all parts
3. Refinishing of the case and of all metal accessories (except for parts with special treatment)
4. Complete revision of the movement
5. Exchange of all gaskets
6. Performance test (precision, amplitude)
7. Function testing
8. Watch head closing
9. Water-resistance test
10. Final check (aesthetics)
This service does not include:
The replacement of additional components such as the dial, bezel, crown or hands must be paid for additionally.
Even if you take good care of your watch, scratches or blemishes may still appear on the case or bracelet. Montblanc recommends polishing your watch from time to time to recover its original brilliance and shine. To do this, the watch must be dismantled completely, separating the bracelet from the watch itself to polish each part individually. It is not possible to polish the glass in the same way, as the anti-reflection treatment would be removed. Moreover, other surfaces such as engraved or sandblasted finishes would be harmed by the brush.
Your watch can only be polished a limited number of times depending on the material. It is important that the polishing does not alter the shape of the watch and its technicality. Some scratches may be too deep to be removed. It is also not possible to polish treated pieces (PVD, ADLC, etc.) and certain materials (such as ceramic, brass, tantalum, etc.).
Please note that polishing is not a separate service, but an additional option that is only offered together with another service, either maintenance or complete, to guarantee the water-resistance of your watch.
This service includes the following operations:
1. Complete dismantling of the watch
2. Polishing with different brushes and polishing pastes
3. Cleaning with ultrasonic bath
4. Watch head closing
5. Final check (aesthetics)
Montblanc highly recommends having your watch’s battery changed on a regular basis.
A weak battery may result in your watch being slow or even in damage to the movement due to battery leakage. We advise you to never use an old battery. Please bring your watch to a Montblanc boutique or certified Montblanc retailer to ensure it is handled by a qualified technician. During the battery service, the back is removed. Both the battery and the back gasket are replaced. Water-resistance test is carried out. Screws are only changed if necessary.
We recommend to carry out a maintenance service on the occasion of a battery exchange.
1. Dismantling of accessories
2. Replacement of battery and back gasket
3. Cleaning of case or case and bracelet with soft cloth
4. Performance test
5. Function testing
6. Watch head closing
7. Water-resistance test
