LIMITED EDITION 4810

Inspired by Matisse’s iconic cut-out, ‘Blue Nude III’, fluid blue and white lacquer shapes flow across the edition’s cap and barrel, revealing a reclining female figure as the writing instrument is rotated. An unusual organic-shaped white lacquered clip, inspired by Matisse's 'The Sheaf' leaf collage, further enhances the design.

LIMITED EDITION 888

The bold colors and intricate patterns of this edition draw inspiration from Matisse’s iconic painting ‘The Romanian Blouse’. The red and blue lacquer on the cap and barrel reflect the artwork's main hues, with decorative elements evoking the traditional blouse. Matisse’s ink drawing, ‘Large Face (Mask)’, is embossed on the handcrafted solid Au 750 gold nib.

LIMITED EDITION 161

This edition pays tribute to Matisse’s journey to Tahiti in 1930, which ushered in a new chapter of artistic expression. A skillful 3D recreation of a hand-engraved detail from his painting, ‘Window in Tahiti’, adorns the cap. The barrel is fashioned from cocobolo wood, featuring a geometric pattern inspired by Tahitian tapa cloth – the design being derived from the materials and memories of his travels.

LIMITED EDITION 96

The vibrant colors and dancing figures from Matisse’s Modernist masterpiece, ‘The Dance II’, are captured in this edition’s design. Hand-applied lacquer in vivid blue and turquoise contrasts with dancers made from bronze, who appear to encircle the cap and barrel in a timeless choreography.

LIMITED EDITION 8

Inspired by Matisse’s 1937 artwork, ‘Purple Robe and Anemones’, this edition masterfully reinterprets its key elements and spirited color palette. The solid Au 750 gold cap and barrel are adorned with handcrafted enamel, complemented by a green jade stone on the cone and a red carnelian on the cap top, emulating the hues of the bouquet. Handfinished 3D laser engravings on the lower barrel and cone feature arabesque ornaments/taken from Matisse's ‘Flowers on the Table’.

A TRIBUTE TO MATISSE’S POETRY OF COLOR

Henri Matisse was a pivotal figure of 20th century art, whose work redefined how the world could be expressed through color and line. Shaped by his travels to the sunlit south of France, Africa, and Tahiti, he transformed his experiences into compositions using bold brushstrokes, vibrant colors, and simplified form – unconventional qualities that would pave the way for a new artistic movement called Fauvism.

From his early leadership of the Fauvist movement through to the celebrated cut-outs of his later years, Matisse’s body of work radiates joy and represents enduring creative freedom.
