THINKING AHEAD

It was only a matter of time before the pursuit of innovation would lead us to explore further ways to enhance the Montblanc writing experience. That‘s why only two decades since the founding of the Maison, in 1926, Montblanc began creating small leather goods and accessories, crafted from leather with Saffiano print, to accompany its writing instruments.

FROM OFFENBACH TO FLORENCE

Mirroring the dedication to craftsmanship reserved for writing instruments, the first Montblanc leat-her workshop was established around 1935 near Offenbach, a German town renowned for its leather expertise. Almost 50 years later, the Montblanc Pelletteria opened its doors in Florence. Located in the historic centre of the Italian leather trade, the Pelletteria has become the hub of leather excel-lence. Here, our designers continue to break new ground while local artisans‘ know-how ensures the preservation of century-old traditions.

CREATING A LIFETIME COMPANION

The creation of each Montblanc leather piece brigs together ancestral craftsmanship, state of the art technology, and enduring design. Every stage of the process is overseen in one location: from proto-typing by Montblanc designers to sourcing the leathers from Florentine tanneries along the Arno river to final quality control. A wide array of cutting-edge equipment - from climate chambers simulating hot and humid conditions to a one-armed robot that tests the endurance of shoulder straps - ensure that the pieces meet Montblanc quality and durability standards.

CRAFT AND CREATIVITY

Leather is a unique material that demands the utmost attention to detail, and the creation of every Montblanc piece is entirely dependent on our specialists‘ skills and expertise. By fully understanding the touch of leather, ways of cutting it, where and how individual parts can be assembled, they can create authentic pieces of art. With over 80 years of expertise, the Montblanc Pelleteria in Florence is where heritage and tradition come together in one centre of competence, where they can be both preserved and advanced.
